While gastric surgery has become a common occurrence among morbidly obese patients, some people are even too obese to undergo any of these surgical procedures safely. The newest form of gastric surgery is the gastric sleeve.

In recent years the gastric bypass was used to help people who have not been able to lose weight through diet and exercise. The surgical procedure actually create a smaller area to handle food intake as the stomach area is cut off or stapled closed.
